I was hoping to follow up my "10 Things For Lindy Hop Leads" with a "10 Things For Lindy Hop Follows", but who would I be kidding?

Considering I only understand women probably 20% as well as I understand men (and that's a LIBERAL guess there), I figured it would end up being a "2 Things For Lindy Hop Follows" which probably wouldn't be all that exciting.

I did actually try to write a "10 Things For Lindy Hop Follows" anyway... and that's when I started to realize that the things I was writing were from a guys point of view ... and so... Voila!!

5 Things Guys Will Like/Dislike

5: Dancing a song if you've turned a guy down already
Guys have precious egos (I should know). And if you turn a guy down for a song and then dance that same song with someone else, he will notice (even if he's way way waaay across on the other side of the room dancing with someone else). And it will be a bit of a crush to his ego for him when he notices (again, I should know). I'm not saying do or don't here, I'm just saying that guys have precious egos, and guys will notice it if you do this.

4: Waiting for the guy to ask you to dance
Ask the guy to dance!!! And let me tell you what an ego boost!!! WOOOHOOOO!!! And I'm not saying do or don't here... well, no actually I am ... DO baby DO DO ! As a guy it feels awesome being asked to dance!!!

3: Looking around too much.
We notice. Especially if you are looking at yourself in the mirror. (although from a straw poll it seems that the guys may be more guilty of this one).

2 More may be less ..
Not that many follows do this anyway, but hard overstyling can sometimes be a bit overwhelming for a lead, esp. beginning leads.

And the number one(1) thing that Guys Will Like/Dislike!

It's really awesome when you laugh at his jokes! Especially if they are math and science-related!

(tell me you didn't see that one coming!)

So I re-read the above article and realized that after such a magnificent countdown the number one thing is a bit of a copout, a disappointment, a non-entry, sucky-poo. (even though if you read between the lines ... it is a valid suggestion) . But let me expand on it a bit because the lines there are a bit hard to read between. So here it is again

The "Official" Number One Thing A Guy Likes

COMPLIMENTS!! ENTHUSIASM!

Remember that precious ego thing? It can work in your favor. And I do not mean just complimenting them after the dance. Compliment the guy during the dance. Even a "Whooaa..nice.." will do wonders. And guys, it works the other way around too. If she does something you like, let her know!

And now I can rest easily ...
