Nerd Quiz: What's your score?
Update April 5, 2005:
There are links throughout the article referencing an online Nerd Quiz. It looks like the server housing this quiz has crashed as it has been very sproadically reachable for the last week or so ...
While we are on this whole "Increasing Your 'Hotness'" and this whole "I used to be geeky but now I'm a stud" thing:
(see relevant article #1)
(see relevant article #2)
(see Figure 1 and Figure 2)

So what is your nerd score? I am "Highly Nerdy" at 89% Nerd Level.

Three notes here...
first: I think if I would have taken this quiz a few years ago (pre-Sheri) I DEFINITELY would have scored higher.
second: I guess the score is still pretty darn high
third: fact is still, I'm cooler than I used to be.. 89% is still a bit nerdy, but it's progressively becoming lower and the fact is Sheri is really making me COOL!!

(err.. in that HOT kind of way ... I mean ...
(..crazy kids and their slang today .."hot" and "cool" mean the same thing, but i'm "fresh" with that .. I ain't "wack")
Okay, so moving on.
Take the quiz first!!
And afterwards you can follow along with me here. Naturally there are spoilers below so don't read further yet until you take the quiz yourself first ...
Here we go:
1. Current Age:
Less than 13
13 to 15
16 to 18
19 to 22
23 to 26
27 to 35
36 to 50
Older than 50
Ben's Thoughts:
Wondering if the older you are, the less cool and more geeky you are for taking a nerd quiz online .. when you should have better things to do?
2. What is your highest level of education?
Less than high school
High school
Some college (no degree)
2-year college degree
4-year college degree
Master-level degree
Doctorate-level degree
3. On average, how long are you on a computer daily? (Not while working)
Less than 1 hour
About an hour
1 to 3 hours
3 to 5 hours
5 to 7 hours
7 to 10 hours
More than 10 hours.
Ben's Thoughts:
If you are on the comptuer at work but not working, how does that factor in? And if I'm on the computer at home doing work (building websites or writing articles for Swing Dancing ... which according to our taxes is work-related), how does that factor?
Though someone once asked me "So if they paid the same, would you dance full time or be on the computer full time?" to which I replied "I can get burned out on dancing. I never would get burned out on the computer." So we'll stick with 5 to 7 hours
4. Do you telnet/ssh?
Huh?
No
Yes, once or so a month
Yes, about once a week
Yes, it is a daily routine
Ben's Thoughts:

a good thing they didn't ask "do you telnet to other ports besides 23?"5. How many of the following do you own? (Count item group only once)
A Microscope
A Telescope
A Graphing Calculator
A Laser Printer
A Laptop
Ben's Thoughts:
I did have a graphing calculator in high school..but haven't had one since high school ..woohoo less nerdy!
As far as computers ... I have one laptop running windows, one running redhat linux, and I have a UltraSparc5 ...woohoo more nerdy!
Sheri's friend once told her: "Ultra Sparc 5? Wow..that's as bad as owning five laptops or something"

Einstein Constant
The speed of light
2.99792458 x 108 m/s
2.99792458 x 108 km/s
Ben's Thoughts:
A practical application:
Rate = Distance over Time ... our Rate is c = speed of light. So some examples of how to calculate this (and remember we are looking at great distances over little time).
Distance from the green light to the driver behind you divided by Time it takes for him get on the horn.
Distance from Sheri to me the first time she saw me divided by the Time it took for her heart to totally melt
Distance of the line around Border's waiting for the next Harry Potter book divided by the Time from when the book release party was announced
you get the idea ...

Higher than 4.00 (Improbable)
Ben's Thoughts:

hmm.. i wonder if that should actually raise my nerd score since I'm using borderline methods to raise my GPA?
